What is stumpwork embroidery? Stumpwork or otherwise known as raised work is a highly skilled form of 3D hand embroidery, which gives a raised multi dimensional look. Stumpwork, with a cross over into hand embroidery stitches, allows you to create detailed 3D pieces and embellishments. It may be best to have some knowledge of hand embroidery before starting out with stumpwork. The “Learn Hand Embroidery Course” from the School of Stitched Textiles is an ideal course to undertake before embarking on this stumpwork course.
A really easy and quick introduction to this beautiful 3D embroidery technique will be conducted by embroidery instructor, Karen Quickfall. Karen will take you step by step through the creation of a gorgeous rose and caterpillar design.

This was a really interesting article! From 4th to 6th grade, as a member of my school’s TAP Program (advanced placement program), we learned how to cross-stitch, and I thought that it was so much fun! We cross-stitched the American flag, our favorite cartoon character (I picked Tweety Bird at the time), as well our favorite food! I still have that project tacked to my wall. Haha Seeing as how I loved the 2d stitching, I know that I would love the 3d stitching as well! I have saved your site and will definitely spread the word. God bless you!
Sweet memories! :) Memories from our school days are certainly some of the best memories that will stay with us forever. I think you are certainly right that if you enjoyed 2D stitching you will certainly enjoy 3D stitching, and I think if you was to embark on this course, it may just stir up those sweet memories from your school days.
I don’t think I ever heard about 3D hand embroidery before, but looking at some of the examples on your website now, I guess I must have seen 3D hand embroidery designs before. I still have to research more about this topic, and maybe I’ll join this course too, seems fun, intriguing, and very helpful. Very nice of you to include a course on this subject.
I guess many again may have heard of 3D embroidery, but would not be familiar with the terms stumpwork embroidery or raised embroidery, especially those that are new to embroidery. It will be great to have you join the stumpwork course should you so desire. I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy it. If you need any assistance or further information, please feel free to ask.
